Competitions “Mechanic for the medal” and “Young mechanic for the medal” – summary
The finals of the latest editions of the “Young Mechanic for the Medal” and “Mechanic for the Medal” competitions took place on September 19-20 during this year’s AGRO SHOW in Bednary.
The “Mechanic for the Medal” and “Young Mechanic for the Medal” competitions are prestigious Polish events organized by the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Agricultural Machines and Facilities. These competitions are dedicated to both experienced mechanics and young apprentices, aiming to raise qualifications and promote the best specialists in the agricultural machinery sector.
“Mechanic for the Medal” is aimed at adults employed in agricultural machinery service centers or running such workshops. Participants compete through online tests and a practical final for the title of best mechanic and cash prizes.
“Young Mechanic for the Medal” is dedicated to students from schools specializing in agricultural mechanization and agrotechnics who develop their skills in repairing and diagnosing agricultural machinery. The competition promotes the profession of agricultural machinery mechanic, nurtures young people’s technical passion, and motivates self-education. It also consists of two stages: online tests and a practical final.
Both competitions support the development of the agricultural machinery sector, enhance participants’ qualifications, and increase the attractiveness of technical professions in agriculture.
The competitions consist of two stages. The first stage is online elimination, during which participants answered questions related to mechanization knowledge in agriculture. From over 300 participants, finalists were selected to take part in finals based on practical tasks, closely reflecting real service and diagnostic challenges faced by mechanics daily.
Participants had to complete five competition tasks requiring precision, technical knowledge, and practical skills.
The tasks included:
- Oil purification station operated in cooperation with Flukar, emphasizing correct operation and analysis of the oil renewal system.
- Sprayer dosing provided by Krukowiak. For young mechanics, the task was to properly calibrate the computer and verify the dose for a uniform spray boom. In the “Mechanic for the Medal” category, the task involved diagnosing the cause of uneven spraying and calibrating the system with different types of nozzles.
- Endoscopic inspection of agricultural machine components conducted with the participation of Agromarket, including engine internal diagnostics and gearbox audit under load.
- Engine Speed Characteristic with PTO brake, using equipment from Raitech. For young mechanics, this tested basic speed characteristics, while professionals had to find the cause of unstable equipment operation.
- Diagnostics and repair of a damaged CANBUS line in a tractor, prepared by Same Deutz Fahr Polska Sp. z o.o., requiring knowledge of modern electronic systems used in machinery.
From both finalist groups, three winners were chosen, receiving titles as top mechanics, monetary prizes, and material awards funded by member companies of the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Agricultural Machines and Facilities.
Winners of the Young Mechanic for the Medal competition:
- Wojciech Osiński – ZSRCKU named after Gen. Dezydery Chłapowski in Trzcianka
- Piotr Cebula – Mechanical School Complex in Opole
- Konrad Ławniczak – ZSCKU in Wojsławice
Winners of the Mechanic for the Medal competition:
- Łukasz Bartoszewicz – Employee Machinery Center in Augustów Sp. z o.o.
- Juliusz Teodorowicz – Agroas Sp. z o.o.
- Paweł Malesa – Farm owner
The “Mechanic for the Medal” and “Young Mechanic for the Medal” competitions aim not only to identify the most competent specialists but also to integrate the agricultural mechanic community, popularize the profession, and encourage young people to develop skills in an industry that is rapidly evolving with technological progress in agriculture. This year’s edition confirmed the great interest and need for such events that combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
