The number of employees during the year was stable and currently amounts to approximately 1,900 employees worldwide. Despite a worse business environment as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the Amazone group completed important investment projects as planned last year.
For example, a new spare parts center has been launched in Tecklenburg-Leeden. Increased storage capacity and a completely new spare parts logistics department with significantly shortened lead times guarantee high service availability all over the world. In order to expand international sales, a new branch was established in Ukraine. The new location in Kiev offers clients a wide range of consulting services and extensive maintenance services.
Overall, also in 2020, investments in fixed assets reached double-digit values expressed in millions of euros. The company has invested over 6% of its turnover in research and development. An extensive expansion of the plant in Bramsche is planned for this year. New halls with an area of 8,000 m2 will be built at the large machinery production plant on the A1 motorway.
In addition, Amazone does not give up its plans to further expand its offer. The Amazone Group has already responded to the increasing demand for precision farming with a number of innovative solutions. In the field of fertilization technology, for example, the sensor-controlled “ArgusTwin” lateral distribution monitoring system that monitors the influence of changing fertilizer properties and automatically optimizes the spread pattern. In addition, the influence of wind can be monitored and the spread pattern can be compensated via the “WindControl System”. This avoids both over-fertilization and under-fertilization.
Future-proof, precise technology is also successfully used in plant protection. Due to the electric switching of the individual nozzles “AmaSelect” in combination with the automatic part-width section “GPS-Switch”, section widths of just 50 cm can be achieved. This avoids up to 85% of overlaps on the wedges and headlands and saves up to 10% of crop protection agent.
Thanks to numerous variants of tillage machines, together with a series of ploughs, we have obtained very satisfactory sales results. The same is true for large area sowing technology, which has been well received in various markets due to the variety of sowing methods. In precision sowing technology, the Amazone sets new standards in precision and speed with the new Precea seed drill.
The positive trend was also marked by the Schmotzer Hacktechnik company, which has been owned by Amazone since 2019. Mechanical plant protection technology is gaining more and more importance thanks to the highly accurate camera, GPS and control technology that enables significant gains in productivity.
From June 2020, Amazone has been running a long-term cultivation trial using Schmotzer mechanical weed control machines. Under the name of Controlled Row Farming (CRF), a completely new farming method is presented, in which all cultivation operations are carried out in relation to fixed rows.
The aim of Amazone is to intensify the further development of modern, precise technologies to achieve climate, nature and environmental protection goals, while guaranteeing maximum yield and reducing costs. An important aspect here is the digitization and networking of all company processes. “Amazone 4.0” is a key concept that symbolizes our contribution in the areas of software, electronics and sensors, ensuring even greater precision, ease of use and transparency, the owners of the company point out. “Our strength lies in our own know-how in the field of electronics, embodied in our experienced team, which is already able to create software on their own.”
Overall, our company expects many changes in the field of “intelligent crop cultivation” with great potential at home and business partners. They range from modernized cultivation and sowing methods, through the selection of varieties, varied crop rotation, to the cultivation of intercrops and undersown crops.
The annual ImageBarometer of the DLG (German Agricultural Society) also notes that Amazone’s product strategy is very well received by farmers. In the last survey, Amazone continued to hold its 4th place and was distinguished by the best image in the field of agricultural technology among small and medium-sized machine manufacturers.
“Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, many agricultural fairs and events are canceled. They were important contact points to showcase our innovations, ”the Dreyer family points out. “We are trying to compensate for this with our strong, comprehensive team and our sales network. We support these efforts by further developing the ways of digital communication. The website, redesigned last year, provides visitors with structured information and contact options. A virtual tour with 360-degree panoramic photos allows you to see the current series of machines in the field of agricultural and communal technology. The use of various digital service tools has worked very well with our dealers. ”
The sales forecasts for the economic year 2021 promise to be very favourable, which is confirmed by both company owners: “We have many orders placed in all product areas. As a result, we are very optimistic about the first half of 2021. Nevertheless, a very dynamic pandemic situation and persisting economic challenges as well as changing political conditions may have a negative impact on the economic situation. In addition, we are dealing with disproportionate price increases and bottlenecks on the part of our sub-suppliers. In addition, the agricultural sector has to increasingly adapt to extreme climatic conditions. On the other hand, the worldwide demand for high-quality food is steadily increasing.
Despite various uncertainties, we expect sales in the current financial year 2021 at the previous year’s level, which was very high. ”
